What types of appliances are there?

Full braces are considered fixed appliances. These are braces bonded to the teeth that we use to complete the tooth movements that we want to achieve. Following treatment, we also provide retainers, which are designed to minimize teeth movement post treatment.

We do use other appliances for patients that may have a cross bite, and sometimes we use palette expanders. There are also a number of different mouth-piece type appliances that some patients may require. But primarily, most of our patients receive braces and retainers.

Invisible aligners have become very popular over the last decade. The technology has improved significantly. What we are able to treat with invisible aligners has improved as well. These are an option for many patients. We discuss this with you as to whether or not you may be a good candidate for a clear aligner.
