What are retainers?

Retainers are a very important part of keeping the positive result of your braces. We spend a year and a half in some cases, meticulously ironing out the details about how your teeth fit together. When treatment is complete, braces come off, you will likely have a retainer in some regard.

98% of our patients receive what is called a bonded fixed retainer in the lower arch and a clear, removable retainer in the upper arch. There are a few people that this is not the case, but in these cases we discuss what is necessary. We ask you sleep in your retainer and use it about 12 hours a day.

Sometimes these circumstances can change depending on the case, but this is an average for the cases we see.
